Japanese Taiko Drumming with 
​Kristy "Aki" Oshiro
​Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Japanese taiko drumming,
bamboo flute music,and captivating folk tales!
Feel the thunderous rhythms of the taiko drums reverberate
through your body as you explore the deep connections
between language, culture, and history.
Along the way, you’ll also experience the melodies
of the Japanese bamboo flute
and hear traditional folk tales that have
​been passed down through generations.

“PanAsia FantAsia”- With the Eth-Noh-Tec Ensemble

“Three's a charm” as this unique storytelling trio weaves ancient myths,
tales with kinetic theatrical storytelling. The ancient art of storytelling
takes to the stage with a modern twist as the
Eth-Noh-Tec Ensemble
enlivens stories from cultures of India, Korea, Philippines, Japan and more!  
 
Since 1982, Eth-Noh-Tec storytelling company has performed to over
a million people throughout the United States and abroad in universities,
festivals, and theaters. Founded in 1982 Eth-Noh-Tec has performed
on the stages of the Smithsonian Museum of American History,
the Kennedy Center, National Storytelling Festival, and at both President
​Clinton’s and President Obama’s Inaugural Celebration.

​​The J-Town Ukes are a ukulele ensemble based
in San Francisco's Japantown, contributing to the neighborhood's
vibrant cultural scene. They started out in 2023 as a group
of friends who played pickleball together in Japantown.
In order to take their game to the next level, they decided
to try their hand at playing the ukulele. They now regularly
do community service performances at senior centers like Kimochi,
Kokoro, and On Lok, at local schools, and to support businesses
in the area. You may have also seen them at Kimochi’s
Silver Bells Arts & Craft Fair, and the Nihonmachi Street Fair.
In addition to their performances, they engage the community
​ through interactive events like sing-alongs.​

to audiences worldwide. Through world-class performances,
we aim to make lion dance a globally recognized art form while inspiring
​and training the next generation to carry it forward.

Wesley Ueunten
​An associate professor of Asian American Studies at SFSU, Ueunten was born and raised on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The grandson of Okinawan immigrants,he celebrates
his heritage in song and spoken word, while examining the Okinawan diaspora.
While living and studying on Okinawa, Ueunten to play traditional music on the sanshin,
a three-stringed instrument with a distinctive, melancholic sound. He now lives in
the Bay Area, where he teaches, performs music and promotes Okinawan culture
and identity. Through music and lyrics, Ueunten will share the stories
of a unique and resilient people.

​​Aileen Cassinetto 
Aileen Cassinetto is the 2019-2022 San Mateo County Poet Laureate, the first Asian American appointed to the post. She has received fellowships and awards from the Academy of American Poets, Brilliant Poetry, Metro Film and Arts Foundation, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. She wrote the lyrics to Saunder Choi's "Wide American Earth" which premiered at Carnegie Hall in 2023 in a historic celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander communities through song. She is co-editor of the award-winning anthology, Dear Human at the Edge of Time: Poems on Climate Change in the United States, a companion to the Fifth National Climate Assessment, and the forthcoming The Nature of Our Times: Poems on America’s Lands, Waters, Wildlife, and Other Natural Wonders.

​Mia Ayumi Malhotra 
​She is the author of Mothersalt (Alice James Books,
forthcoming May 2025) and Isako Isako, a California
Book Award finalist and winner of the Alice James Award,
Nautilus Gold Award for Poetry, National Indie Excellence
Award,and Maine Literary Award. She is also the author
of the chapbook Notes from the Birth Year, winner of
the Bateau Press BOOM Contest.
Mia holds degrees in creative writing
from Stanford University and the University of
Washington,and her work has received
the Hawker Prize for Southeast Asian Poetry
​and the Singapore Poetry Prize.
​She is a Kundiman Fellow and founding member
of The Ruby SF,a gathering space for women and
nonbinary artists. Mia’s great-grandfather,
Nobuo Higaki started Bay City Flower Company
in Half Moon Bay which was in the family for
four generations before closing in 2019.
